I'm Mayor Marty Small Sr., and it's an honor to serve as your mayor.

As someone who was born and raised in this vibrant city, I've dedicated my life to making Atlantic City the best it can be for all of us.

Since taking office in 2019, my focus has been on building a clean, safe, and prosperous community where every resident and visitor feels at home.

Leadership and Achievements

    • October 3, 2019: Marty Small Sr. becomes Acting Mayor following the resignation of Mayor Frank Gilliam Jr. due to legal issues. His main goal is to stabilize the city’s government and continue the progress made in Atlantic City’s resurgence.

    • November 3, 2020: Marty Small Sr. is officially elected as Mayor of Atlantic City after serving as Acting Mayor for over a year. During his time as Acting Mayor, he focused on fiscal responsibility and continued community engagement, working to restore trust in the city’s leadership.

    • COVID-19 Response: Under Mayor Small’s leadership, Atlantic City responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by implementing safety protocols, organizing food distribution, and coordinating public health efforts.

    • Economic Development: Mayor Small promotes investment in the city, supporting the growth of small businesses and advocating for more significant investments in Atlantic City’s entertainment and tourism sectors.

    • City Beautification: The mayor initiated various beautification efforts, including improving public spaces, renovating playgrounds, and creating community murals, to uplift Atlantic City’s image.

    • Public Safety Initiatives: He emphasizes improving safety through crime reduction efforts and better cooperation between the police and community.

    • Job Training Programs: Mayor Small focused on providing job opportunities and skills training programs for Atlantic City residents, especially targeting youth and underprivileged communities.

    • Increased Tourism and Events: Atlantic City continued to thrive under his leadership as he pushed for larger events like concerts, festivals, and tourism promotion, helping rebuild the post-COVID economy. This included events like the “Atlantic City Airshow,” attracting thousands of tourists.

    • Youth and Educational Initiatives: Mayor Small prioritized the youth by creating programs focused on education, mentorship, and community service.

    • Infrastructure Improvements: He continued to secure funds for critical infrastructure projects such as road repairs, sewer upgrades, and public transportation.

    • Affordable Housing: A key achievement in 2023 was expanding affordable housing options for Atlantic City residents, helping to tackle the city’s housing crisis and homelessness issues.

    • Steel Pier & Tourism Promotion: Mayor Small pushed to modernize and expand Atlantic City’s key tourist destinations like Steel Pier, enhancing the city’s appeal to visitors.

    • Cultural Engagement: Mayor Small launched initiatives to celebrate cultural diversity in Atlantic City, such as organizing events for Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, and LGBTQ+ Pride.

    • Multicultural Events: Continued organizing diverse cultural events, such as the 2nd Annual Rainbow Beach Bash and #HispanicHeritageMonth celebrations, which foster inclusivity and community pride.

    • Mayor’s Safety Plan: Further steps were taken to address public safety, with increased funding and resources allocated for neighborhood safety programs, showing a steady decrease in crime rates.

    • Improving City Services: Mayor Small consistently worked to enhance the quality of life for residents by improving city services, from waste management to recreational facilities.

    • Fostering Business Development: He has remained dedicated to attracting businesses, promoting entrepreneurship, and revitalizing the downtown area.
